As a result, it is understandable that the traditional rectangular or square area rug is perceived as a secure and easy option by the majority of people. However, there are some special scenarios in which the addition of a circular rug may make a space come to life and make it truly sing.
Here are six criteria to help you choose whether or not a circular rug would be a good fit for your space.
1. You would want to draw attention to curved architectural elements
The use of curved architectural components in a space may be both distinctive and eye-catching; thus, embrace this unexpected structural aspect by matching it with a circular rug. These features will help to bring the room’s general vibe together and emphasize the room’s curves, making them an even more noticeable design aspect.
2. You’d want to display another circular item on the table
If you have a round piece of furniture or an important item in your space, such as a round chandelier or a round mirror, placing a round rug in the room might draw attention to the form of your highlighted piece.

3. You’d want to create a vignette or a unique zone in your room
Whether your living space has an open-concept layout, such as a loft, or your room is just large enough to incorporate a distinct functional zone, such as a reading nook, a circular rug may help define that space and provide visual interest.
Make sure that at least a portion of every piece of furniture hits the rug at some point. In addition to giving the area its own coherent design, it will also assist to distinguish it as a separate space from the rest of the room.
4. You want to add a vibrant accent rug on top of your carpet or area rug to make it stand out
It’s an excellent idea to use a circular rug over wall-to-wall carpeting or an area rug if you want to inject a splash of color or pattern into your space. Because of its surprising shape, a circular rug will draw attention to a new bold or brilliant pattern while also giving the area a more planned, creative appearance.

5. You want to make a tiny space appear larger than it actually is
It is common for designers to employ this approach to make a tiny area appear larger by including a circular rug into the design. The curvature of a circular rug enables the viewer’s gaze to travel around the circumference of the space.
The rug also gives the impression that the furniture is fanned out, which gives the impression of fluid movement in a smaller area that might otherwise look congested with furniture. A circular rug also adds visual interest to a room, which may help to distract from the restricted amount of space available in a compact area.
Tip: When placing a round rug in a small space, try to use larger pieces of furniture that have a slender profile and place them so that they just barely touch the circular rug. As illustrated below, the curve of the rug is apparent as a result of this technique.
6. The normal rectangular shape does not function
Rugs are often available in regular sizes, such as 5 by 8 feet or 8 by 10 feet, among others. A conventional rug size may not be appropriate in some situations due to the size and location of your furniture, structural obstructions such as columns, or simply the amount of space required for proper door clearance.
This is when a circular rug may come in handy to help out. While its curvy design may not take up as much floor area as a rectilinear rug, it may be more forgiving of certain of the room’s limitations than a rectangular rug.
